How to Throw a Silent Disco at Your Steamboat Vacation Rental

How to Throw a Silent Disco at Your Steamboat Vacation Rental

Most Steamboat vacation rentals, condos and HOAs have quiet hours, often starting around 10 pm. That’s usually right when a group trip’s big night gets going. A silent disco solves the problem: everyone dances to music in wireless headphones, so the house stays quiet to the neighbors while the party carries on inside.

Here’s how to plan one for your ski trip, bachelorette weekend or family reunion.

How a silent disco works

Each guest gets a wireless headset. The music is sent to the headsets instead of speakers, so anyone without one hears only singing, laughing and footsteps. Multi-channel setups let guests switch between channels on their headsets, which turns choosing the music into part of the fun.

A host sets everything up before guests arrive, hands out headsets, runs the music and collects every headset at the end of the night.

Is it really quiet?

The music is. People aren’t. Guests still talk and sing along, so a silent disco keeps you far quieter than speakers, but it doesn’t make a party silent. Before you book, read your rental’s house rules on events and maximum guest count, and keep the party indoors after quiet hours.

How many headsets do you need?

Plan one headset per guest who wants to dance, plus a few spares. Will Peddie’s silent disco packages include 25 headsets, and you can add more for $8 each, up to 100, which covers most parties at a rental home and plenty of larger events.

What it costs in Steamboat

  • Hosted, $300: 25 headsets, 1 channel, minimum 2 hours, with setup, breakdown and Will on site. The quiet-hours house party.
  • Live DJ, $650: everything in Hosted, plus Will DJing live on one channel.
  • Extra channels, $40 each; extra headsets, $8 each (up to 100). Longer hours and multiple DJs are quoted for your event.

These are starting rates; the final quote depends on the date, location, hours and travel. Will can DJ up to three channels at the same time during a silent disco, and he offers the ability to start on speakers and transition to headphones as the event progresses, upon request.

A simple timeline for the night

  1. Before quiet hours: dinner, games or an après set on speakers.
  2. About 30 minutes before quiet hours: hand out headsets and do a quick channel demo.
  3. Quiet hours start: speakers off, headsets on. The party keeps going.
  4. End of the night: the host collects and counts every headset.

Book early for winter weekends

Winter weekends and holiday weeks are the first dates to go in Steamboat. As soon as you know your dates, check availability or text Will. See full details on the Silent Disco Rental page.
